The concept of transformation, of fundamental importance in the cosmologies of contemporary American indigenous peoples, can be clearly seen in Tumaco art in the way human and animal features are combined. In this ceramic container and in many others, the feline is represented with threatening jaws for a mouth, with protruding fangs, but with human nose and ears.
