From May 24th 1940 until July 1945, Aleksander Ładoś served the function of ambassador in Berno in the rank of chargé d’affaires ad interim. His tasks included among others caring for Polish and Jewish refugees as well as a dozen thousand interned soldiers of the 2nd Rifle Division of general Bronisław-Prugar Ketling. Funds for humanitarian aid to Polish refugees all over the world were also sent through Berno.
