Soccer superstars Alex Morgan (born 1989) and Megan Rapinoe (born 1985) were co-captains of the U.S. women’s national team that won the 2019 Women's World Cup. Rapinoe also won the tournament’s Golden Boot and Golden Ball awards. In the 2012 Olympics, her three goals and four assists led the U.S. to a gold medal. In those Games, Morgan scored the winning goal in the 123rd minute of the semi-final match against Canada. The women were among five star players who sued the U.S. Soccer Federation, arguing that women are paid less and get less support than male players—despite outperforming them on the field.
