Official portrait of Alfonso II, The Chaste (1157–96), son of Petronilla and Ramon Berenguer IV, the first king of the Crown of Aragon. The painting joined the collection at the Zaragoza Museum (Museo de Zaragoza) in 1842, having previously been at the Ducal Palace of Villahermosa (Palacio Ducal de Villahermosa). The king wears a crown, court dress, and a royal robe. In the top right corner, we see a coat of arms with the stripes of Aragon. Rafael Pertús's compositions are classic in style with gentle coloring and a perfect finish.
