All Saints Day, from the Day of the Dead Animation Short. In 1521, Spain conquered Mexico, changing drastically the lives of the indigenous people and their beliefs. Through religious syncretism, the indigenous rituals of worship and veneration of the dead came to correspond with the Roman Catholic and Spanish holidays: All Saints’ Day (November 1) and All Souls’ Day (November 2).
