"Miquel Utrillo commissioned Pere Jou I Francisco (Barcelona, 1891 – Sitges, 1964) the realization of sculptural elements to decorate the buildings that integrated the Maricel complex, a Charles Deering property.
For the window capitals Jou looked for different sources of inspiration: fables, allegories or topical issues.
In this capital Jou sculpted “the Allegory of the Diligence and the active man”. With his characteristic sense of humour he represented a slim man with four arms and four legs, with his head turned looking back and giving to understand that the main character, which inspired precisely Miquel Utrillo, always went running and doing many things at the same time. Behind a deer reinforces the idea of speed.
The couple of this capital is “the Allegory of Laziness”, just the antithesis."
