Allerton Hall near Liverpool was built in the 18th century and extended in the early 19th century. The estate was purchased in 1736 by the Rochdale merchants John and James Hardman, and the main part of the house was almost certainly built for John Hardman. The central portico introduced the Palladian architectural style to the Liverpool area.
