Alma was the daughter of Benjamin Bradley (Nov 1829 - 27 Aug 1902) and Matilda (Hall) Bradley (Mar 1834 - 21 Aug 1906), who married about 1854. Matilda was born in Yorkshire, England.

Benjamin and Matilda emigrated to the United States in 1869. In the 1880 and 1900 U.S. Censuses, they were living in Washington, DC, and Benjamin was a "stone polisher" (1880) and a "marble polisher" (1900).

Obituary for Benjamin - "On Wednesday, August 27, 1902, at 12:20 a.m. at the home of his daughter, 461 N street southwest, Benjamin Bradley, aged 71 years. Funeral Friday, August 29 at 3 p.m. from above number."

Obituary for Matilda - "On Wednesday, November 21, 1906, at 9:45 p.m., Matilda Bradley, widow of the late Benjamin Bradley. Funeral from her daughter's residence, 461 N street southwest, Saturday, November 24, at 2 p.m. Interment at Congressional cemetery." In the 1870 U.S. Census, Alma Bradley was living in Washington, DC, in the household of Elizabeth Meller (born c.1818), and she was a "domestic."

Alma married John H. Lipphard (Oct 1852 - 16 July 1917) as his first wife. He [2nd] married her younger sister, Annie, on 31 Oct 1887.

"On the 31st of August, 1877, at 8 o'clock, Alma, beloved wife of John H. Lipphard, aged 22 years.

Darling wife, I'm lonely weeping,
God alone my grief can know;
But in Christ thou art sweetly sleeping;
This o'er grief a calm will throw.

Her funeral will take place from the residence of her mother-in-law, No. 474 N street southwest, Sunday, September 24, at 3 o'clock. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend."
