The Standard Golf Co. was one of the first high volume manufacturers to experiment with materials other than wood or steel to produce their clubs. From 1899 until the start of the Second World War, Standard made a full range of clubs - from driver to putter - which were primarily aluminium. Noted professionals James Braid (five times Open Championship winner) and Ted Ray (1912 Open Championship, 1920 US Open) used and endorsed Standard Golf Co. designs, and lent their names to two of the company's most successful models.

This niblick, with a mild steel insert that both adds weight to the head and protects the leading edge against damage,is typical of the quality and attention to detail that went into the Standard Golf Co. product.
