"On a par with the capital devoted to the abundance Pere Jou I Francisco (Barcelona, 1891 – Sitges, 1964) sculpted the “Allegory of Privation or Hunger” for one of the Maricel windows. Here Jou represented a very slim man with angular features holding a dry cod, next to a dog to which you can count the ribs, surrounded by acanthus leaves.
For the male figure he was inspired by En Cirera, one of M. Urgellés assistants, in charge of the Maricel electrical system, as he had been already a model for the sculptor in the Abundance representation.

Jou agreed with Miquel Utrillo that the composition of this capital would be symmetric in relation to his partner, but it was not exactly so. When Utrillo asked him about this change, the sculptor due to his sharp sense of humour answered that smelling the cod, the dog, starving, turned to him waiting to share the meal."
