Titled for the magnificent jewel-like colors reflected in the crashing surf, this large seascape depicts the dramatic moment when the clouds separate and allow the sun’s golden light to shine through. The water reflects the light and rushes toward the rocky coastline in dramatic fashion. The artist noted, “I have always believed in establishing the sky tone, in general, as soon as possible. In sea painting, the rest depends upon it because of the element of reflection.”
