Concept of Panca Buddha(the five transcendental Buddhas) appeared somewhere in 5th century. Each of the five Buddhas represent different classifications into five categories including knowledge, senses, human behavior etc. Amitabh Buddha is one of the Panca Buddhas facing west. The direction is based on the position of the deity on a Mandala. As per the Vajradhatu Mandala Amitabh is positioned at the west side. Amitabh Buddha is seen in the meditative- Dhyani gesture.
