About the artist: Peter Michael Gish (Col, USMCR) (1926 – present)
Peter Gish was commissioned as an officer in the Marine Corps Reserves in 1946. He was recalled to active duty during the Korean War as a helicopter flight instructor. Gish commanded Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 768 (HMM-768) at NAS Floyd Bennett Field and volunteered to go to Vietnam as a combat artist. He documented Operation Provide Comfort in Iraq in 1991, and was recalled to active duty in 1993 to cover Operation Restore Hope in Somalia. Gish has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Dartmouth College and a Master of Fine Arts from Yale University, and lives in Rhode Island.
