This is a very rare example of a painting of the northern most treaty port in present-day Liaoning province, China. The lorcha is probably a pilot vessel, most of the pilots for foreign vessels using the port being Americans.

A lorcha is a hybrid vessel with European hull and Chinese rig. This type of vessels were developed in Macau during the sixteenth century, and became very popular on the China coast by the nineteenth century.
