This horticultural therapy project began in the municipality of Quarto d'Altino, in the province of Venice, with the goal of helping a group of disabled youth living in an educational facility become familiar with their surroundings, particularly the natural world, plant life, and landscapes. After getting acquainted with the surrounding environment, the youth transformed it through their work, by creating and caring for an aromatic herb garden. The project revolves around the ability of horticultural therapy to help treat vulnerable subjects. The participating youth thus became producers on behalf of the social community as a whole, and managed to learn and manage, in partial autonomy, the manual skills and processes necessary for cultivating, harvesting, preserving, and giving.
