An Enquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations

The first edition of the book which founded modern economics. The University has two copies, both full of marginal annotations by early generations of students.  There was a culture of writing forthright comments in the margins of library books in the Scottish Universities at the time, but only Adam Smith inspired quite this level of interaction with the text.
