The copy of William Robertson's influential gardening book, Alpine Flowers for Gardens, published in 1869, belonged to Newby Hall's Edwardian owner, Robert de Grey Vyner. The book still has an edelweiss pressed between its pages. It was Robert Vyner who created the Rock Garden at Newby.
