Militant Bengali filmmaker, Hemen Gupta made this biopic based on Bankimchandra’s novel of the same name. It depicts the 18th century sage Satyanand who led the Sanyasi uprising against the British. The song Vande Mataram rouses nationalistic sentiments. Gurudev trains many warriors to fight against the British during their tyrannical rule. In an era when women were not allowed in the battlefield, he was the first to encourage them to fight, gave them representation and power.
