The oldest manuscripts preserved at the National Archives of Georgia are a collection of Georgian and foreign historical documents from the 9th-20th centuries that represent the main documentary base to study the different stages of the history of Georgia. It also includes the earliest aspect of the Byzantine culture. The old Georgian secular or ecclesiastical literature are presented at the manuscript collection under the following genres: bibliology, biblical apocrypha, hagiography, homiletics, and hymnography.
