Ancestor figure

In the Asmat creation myth, the great hero Fumeripit created many great human figures. When he began to beat the drum, the figures came to life like the first men and formed the first clans. For this reason, carved figures were central to the ceremonial life of the Asmat, usually representing recently deceased individuals and ancestors.
