Andean Bears are important seed dispersers. They eat a lot of fruit and walk large distances while discharging the seeds and thus helping reforestation of the woods. This is not only very important for the vegetation and the forest but also for the availability of water. In fact, by having more cover of shrubs and trees, the environment can retain more water, preventing it from evaporating. In this way there is more water available for everyone, including humans who use it for drinking, livestock, crops and agriculture.
Andean Bears are great swimmers and like playing and fishing in the water. This further underlines the important relationship between the species and the water.
