The leather puppetry of Andhra Pradesh is amongst the oldest shadow puppet traditions. It is a medium of entertainment, of sharing and transmitting folklore, and of communicating information and knowledge.
The making of leather puppets went hand-in-hand with their use in a performance. The artisan, who was also the performer, was both the creator and the storyteller. In a changing scenario, the craftsman is constantly forging new paths for the art form.
Featured in this short film are DC Rao, Sindhe Ramulu and family.
