André Leroi-Gourhan has proposed a radically new approach to the interpretation of paleolithic parietal art, based on a return to the documents themselves, the analysis of the neighborhood relations of the works and their position relative to the topography cavities. He proceeds to a statistical treatment of the representations and leads to a symbolic reading of the figurations (pictogram, mythogramme11) interpreted as masculine or feminine symbols.
