Matamoros is a Costa Rican multidisciplinary artist whose work incorporates of multiple techniques and media, including drawing, painting, sculpture, and performance. In Angel , the dramatic contrast of light and dark colors is rendered through expressive textures and brushstrokes that evoke the feeling of movement, suggestive of freedom, expansion, and transformation. Angel may be a proxy for the artist herself and her own search for spiritual meaning; the figure emerges out of a dark, tumultuous ground, twisting forward into the light.
