Synthetically colored textile samples from a catalogue of the German BASF company. BASF was founded as a manufacturer of synthetic dyes and is now considered the world's largest chemical producer. Its first international success was the production of alizarin red according to the patent of Lieberman, Gräbe and their Jewish associate Heinrich Caro (1834-1910).
