Animal-shaped nephrite earring

National Museum of Natural Science

National Museum of Natural Science

This nephrite earring might be discovered by a common person in a prehistorical slate coffin during the building of the New Taitung Train Station in 1980. Its style belongs to the Peinan Culture which dated approximately 2,300 to 3,500 years before present, and it was most likely a burial object. Although this specimen has been slightly damaged, the shape of animals along the outer edge are very obvious. However, it is not clear which animals are represented.
