Holly Lee worked as a professional photographer since 1980. She was awarded the Asian Cultural Council fellowship in 1994 and was the recipient of the Grand Award and two Gold Awards from the Hong Kong Institute of Professional Photographers (1995) and Best of Multimedia in the pan Pacific Digital Artistry Competition (1996). From 1992 to 1999 she was one of the founders and editors of Dislocation magazine, a Hong Kong-based monthly journal on contemporary photography. After moving to Canada in 1997, she sat on the committee for Gallery 44, an artist-run photography centre in Toronto, and also participated in several group shows. Her recent works appeared in the group show “What’s Next 30x30” (Shenzhen and Hong Kong, 2011) and “YYZ Dialogue: Seven Toronto Artists in Response to the Poems of Leung Ping Kwan” (Toronto, 2011). This series featured Holly Lee’s friends and artists, most of whom are well-known in cultural, artistic and film circles. They are being perfectly captured in a particular instant, manifesting their unique mannerisms and aura, totally at ease and light-hearted. Looking at them seems take us back to their era of zealousness, eager anticipation of the future, and the looking forward to the birth of a new culture.
