First discovered by scientists in a local market in 1996, little is still known about Annamite rabbits. It is one of seven native species of lagomorphs (the order in which hares and rabbits belong to) in the ASEAN region. Based on camera trap records, the Annamite rabbits have been found to be strictly nocturnal and solitary. These rabbits are endemic to the evergreen forests of the Annamite Mountains along Lao PDR and Viet Nam. They are currently classified as Endangered in the IUCN Red List.
