Anne Evans
1871 – 1941
Cultural Champion and Philanthropist
INDUCTED 2016

Anne Evans transformed the cultural and literary landscape of Colorado during the early 20th Century – from the Denver Art Museum, to the Central City Opera, to the Denver Public Library.

As early as 1895, Evans co-founded the Denver Artist’s Club (forerunner of the Denver Art Museum). Mayor Robert Speer appointed her to the Municipal Art Commission charged with redesigning Denver’s Civic Center, an architectural landmark which has stood the test of time. She served on the Denver Public Library Commission as its first female President, during which time she initiated the construction of eight branch libraries. Anne Evans’ remarkable legacy lives on in so many of the cultural enterprises she envisioned.

“You can get much good work done if you let others take the credit.” — Anne Evans
