Before you is the Holy Annunciation Cathedral in Kharkiv. Mykhailo Lovtsov, an architect from Kharkiv, known for his designs of temples, was the author of the project. The cathedral was built in a neo byzantine style. Such a choice can be explained by, then popular fashion, to imitate the main Christian shrine - the Cathedral of St. Sophia in Constantinople. At the beginning of the XX century, other retrospective styles became widespread, such as neoclassicism, neo-baroque, neo-renaissance and neo-Gothic.
