From a collection of antique newspapers containing articles relevant to Black British history; these are often regarding the Translantic Slave Trade, however some articles relate to musicians, sportsmen and British imperialism.
This copy of The Edinburgh Evening Courant includes an 'extract of a letter to Mr Thomas Gatherer, in Lombard Street, dated 12 April 1773 [from] Fort James, River Gambia' telling of an uprising of enslaved people on the New Britannia (owned by Mr John Shoolbred) at Gannimarew on 24 January (second page, third column).
