"Enamel plate coming from the Artistic Reproduction Museum. In the summer of 1936 the “Junta de Museus” (Museum Assembly) placed part of these museum collections in the Maricel Palace turned into museum section of the Cau Ferrat with the aim to enlarge the exhibition space.
In the context of the recovery of the art trades that happened between the end of the XIX century and the beginning of the XX century we found two trends.
On one hand the reproduction of old works, that sometimes passed off as authentic, and on the other hand the production of new creation works following the taste of that time but inspired in the past.
That’s the case of this copper enamelled plate with the grisaille technique, inspired by the Renaissance, coming from a French workshop.
As the subject represents the Goddess of Love and by extension of Marriage, decently covered by a tunic, and by the way it is treated it could be a wedding present."
