Apostle John & Prokhorus

According to Christian tradition Saint John the Evangelist, John of Patmos and the Beloved Disciple are the same person. It is believed that he traveled to Asia Minor for a time converting people to the beliefs taught by Jesus. When John first traveled to Asia Minor the boat capsized stranding John and his disciple on the island Patmos; it is there that he is said to have received the visions that are written in the book of Revelation. He is given credit for the Gospel According to John, the Book of Revelation, and three canonical letters: I John, II John, III John. Saint John is often depicted as an eagle. His life is celebrated on May 8, he is also celebrated with the other apostles on June 30 and his death is celebrated on September 26.

The Apostle Prokhorus was among the first deacons, chosen by the 12 apostles, in the Church and is commemorated with the others on July 28. Saint Prokhorus furst accompanied Saint Peter in Nicomedia but traveled with Saint John on his journey when they were both stranded on Patmos. After the book of Revelation was written Prokhorus returned to Nicomedia to convert people to Christianity.
