Applique

Gilded terracotta applique depicting a semi-reclining bare-breasted female figure, covered by a cloak. She is flanked by a nude Eros in the act of shooting an arrow. Similar appliques, arranged in friezes incorporating a range of subjects, were used for the decoration of wooden sarcophagi. The figure was part of a frieze with a Dionysian theme.
