Investigating light, atmosphere and colour - I create temporal landscapes within my paintings. Through my painterly technique, I allow materiality to lead the work - conveying a sense of timelessness from an abstracted viewpoint in my landscapes. Whilst social distancing during COVID-19, I am watching time slowly pass from my window - and a way I deal with the current situation is create these moments I see through art. I intend to suspend the viewer, and my objective is to somehow refract time; to allow the viewer to lure in to the colourful, atmospheric work and feel that sense of temporality - which is a feeling I'm sure we would all relate to in the current climate.
'April Clouds' was produced during the 2020 period of quarantine, when many countries around the world went into lockdown to tackle the spread of Covid-19. It’s a personal response to crisis, uncertainty, and altered states of being.
