Apron of bobbin lace, with a slightly shaped top that has possibly been adapted from a furnishing flounce. Only the lower edge is un-altered and there is a join right across the lace, approx. 60cm from the bottom. Above the join, the pattern is upside down.
The bobbin lace is of the early Brussels type; patterned, with areas of solid cloth stitch partly outlined with a raised, woven cordonnet. A variety of fancy filling meshes are used and a reseau of round, plaited and twisted Flemish mesh. The threads from the reseau are stranded across the back of the patterned areas.
Vertically arranged designs of urns containing flowers, and surmounted by canopies, comparable to the more formal designs of Point de France. The interspaces contain cornucopid floral sprigs and exotic leaves.
