Large aquamarine stone weighing 1298 carats. In a dark brown veneer box in an Art Deco-style with "CASA / OSCAR MACHADO" on tag on box at the front. Box lined with white velvet and satin. Stone was presented to Eleanor Roosevelt by President and Mme. Getulio Vargas of Brazil on the occasion of the visit of President Roosevelt in 1936. At that time, at least, this aquamarine was the largest such gem in the world. Cut by Gustav Reitbauer, employee of Amsterdam Limited of Brazil. Box made by jeweler Casa Oscar Machado.
