The arapaima lives in the Amazon and is one of the world’s largest freshwater fish. Its bony tongue indicates its long history. The arapaima is a popular delicacy. In legends told by the Amazon Indians the fish represents the cursed son of a chieftain. It is endangered due to overfishing.
