Lunar Lander is notable for being the first Atari video game to use vector graphics. Although not a highly successful game, Lunar Lander is significant because it paved the way for other Atari vector-based games. It is considered the forefather of one of the most influential and popular games in video arcade game history: Asteroids.
In Lunar Lander, the player must navigate a lunar module to a safe landing on the moon. To increase the difficulty of the game the player is given a limited amount of fuel and must deal with realistic lunar gravity and physics and an uneven terrain. The cabinet is complete with a unique spring-action, two-handled lever to control the booster engines.
