Atari's Red Baron is notable for being the first first-person video flight simulator. Released in 1980, Red Baron used similar 3D vector graphics as Battlezone, which was produced by Atari in the same year. The player navigates a WWI fighter plane through a 3D mountain setting. The player must shoot enemy planes and blimps, as well as targets on the ground, to score points. Both upright and cockpit versions of Red Baron were manufactured. The upright versions were altered versions of the Battlezone cabinets.
