Williams Electronics released Sinistar in 1982. Sinistar is known for its technologically advanced sound system. The advanced speech synthesis of the game produced such iconic phrases as "Run, coward!", "Beware, I live!", and "I hunger."
The objective of Sinistar is blow up the evil Sinistar. As Worker ships build the Sinistar, players must blast Sinisite crystals from floating Planetoids. The player must bomb the Sinistar with enough Sinibombs to blow it up. However, the game becomes more difficult once the giant, skull-like Sinistar is complete; the Sinistar chases the player's spaceship making the Sinistar challenging to shoot at. If caught by the Sinistar, it will gruesomely devour the player's spaceship.
Sinistar was never highly popular, yet the game continues to be played on the internet today. Although not extensively ported in the 80s, the game has since been ported to a number of home consoles, including: Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Sega Genesis, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo GameCube.
