The Archangels Michael, Gabriel, Raphael and Uriel surround a medallion with portrayal of Pantocrator on four sides. Only one archangel dressed in blue has been preserved as a mosaic. Its height is 3, 85 m. He holds a labarum in his left hand with inscription in Greek “thrice holy”. In his right hand he holds a sphere – symbol of the universe. The Calvary cross is depicted on the sphere – symbol of the Crucifixion of Christ, his Agony and Resurrection.
Three other portrayals were painted in oils by M. Vrubel in 1884.
