Richard Arundel, Surveyor General to the King's Works, inherited the Allerton estate in 1720. He built a new house and enlarged the park.

The round-headed stone arch entrance to a boathouse on the park's Lower Fish Pond was built at the end of the 18th century or early 19th century. The arch is all that remains of a stone boathouse that once stood on the south bank of the pond.
