The new County Secondary School at Ilkeston, Derbyshire, was opened by King George V in 1914. It was designed by the County Architect, George Widdows (1871-1946), who was a pioneer of school design. The style of handwriting used by Widdows for the title of the drawing in the top left corner is highly unusual and seems to have been his own design.
