Harley-Davidson saves one motorcycle a year for the archives collection. The practice began in 1919, when the Motor Company created a historical display of their motorcycles for the Chicago Motorcycle Show. Advertising shows that the Motor Company offered to buy models from owners in order to create the display. Today, these motorcycles are taken straight from the production line.

This photograph depicts the vehicle collection as it looked in 1939.
