Arctic foxes live in the cold Arctic and have developed a thick layer of fat on their bodies to withstand the cold. Their short, rounded ears prevent heat from escaping and their paws are characterized by long hairs on the soles. They live in burrows on small hills between 1 and 4 meters high. Generations of them occupy these small burrows for hundreds of years, gradually expanding them. They can travel great distances of more than 1,000 kilometers along the sea ice.
