An aerial view photo showing an irregular coastline of tan brown lowland on the right, and a large body of blue-green arctic ocean to the left. Scattered rafts of white sea ice dot the waters along the shoreline running vertically up the centre of the image. To the right, several small rounded lakes fill depressions in the landscape.
Qausuittuq National Park encompasses a cluster of islands in a frozen sea, conserving an arctic landscape of marshy wetlands, low level plateaus and rich marine areas. Although it is one of the harshest and driest places in the world, a surprising number of wildlife have adapted to this particular environment, such as the endangered Peary caribou. In August, 2017, Parks Canada and Qikiqtani Inuit Association officially opened Qausuittuq National Park, Nunavut.
