Ares Ludovisi (Copia di)

Plaster cast of a marble copy of the 2nd-1st century BC from a bronze original of the 3rd century BC, preserved in the National Roman Museum. The specimen, ascribed with certainty in the mid-eighteenth century and of excellent workmanship, figures together with Arria and Peto, among the casts requested by Benedict XIV to Farsetti, who for his collection had to resort to a counter from the copy of Academy of France. However from the indications given by Senator Malvezzi to Cardinal Millo in 1757 we learn that, at the time of the delivery of the statues by Farsetti, the Aria and Peto group and the resting Ares were exchanged for eight busts.
