There was no larger artist dealing with Art Nouveau in Wrocław like Max Wislicenus. He graduated from the Academies in Düsseldorf and Munich, where he participated in exhibitions together with members of the "Secession" association. In Wrocław in the years 1916-1918 he was the director of the Academy of Fine Arts and he was responsible for implementing a number of reforms in the theteaching program. The presented painting was created after the artist retired and moved to Dresden. It was then that a series of paintings devoted to stage dance was created, including a series of 5 works titled Argentina. It is worth paying attention to the castanets held by the dancer, suggesting that she may have been dancing flamenco.
