Bryson and her husband also encountered this couple their photographer tour of the South. These poor people in the hills of Arkansas were likely candidates for the Resettlement Administration because they were working on unproductive, stony land. The houses were characteristic of the Arkansas landscape, and the leafless, perhaps dead, trees typify the sense of agricultural devastation.
